Beaver County sits along the Ohio River in western Pennsylvania, with its county seat in the Borough of Beaver. The county’s judicial system centers on the Court of Common Pleas, a trial court of general jurisdiction where seven elected judges oversee criminal prosecutions, civil disputes, family law matters, and orphans’ court proceedings. Below the Court of Common Pleas, eight Magisterial District Courts serve as the entry point for most residents’ first contact with the legal system, handling preliminary hearings, minor criminal cases, traffic violations, and small civil claims. Several distinct county offices—the Clerk of Courts, the Prothonotary, and the Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court—each serve as custodians of different categories of court records.

Individuals researching court records in Pennsylvania can draw on a combination of local clerk offices, in-person courthouse terminals, and statewide electronic tools. The Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania maintains a free web portal where anyone can search, view, and print docket sheets for cases across all 67 counties, including Beaver County. PennsylvaniaCourts.us may also assist users in identifying the appropriate court and locating publicly available case information. For records that are not accessible electronically—or when certified copies are required—a direct inquiry to the relevant county office remains the most reliable approach.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Beaver County?

The primary electronic resource for locating Beaver County court cases is the UJS Web Portal, operated by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts. This free tool allows searches by participant name, docket number, organization name, or date filed, and it returns docket sheets for Common Pleas criminal and civil divisions as well as Magisterial District Court cases.

Online search steps:

  1. Visit the UJS Web Portal and select “Docket Sheets” or “Case Search”.
  2. Choose the court type (Common Pleas, Magisterial District Judge, or Appellate).
  3. Enter your search criteria—party name, docket number, or other identifying details.
  4. Filter results by county (select Beaver) and case type if desired.
  5. View or print the returned docket sheet, which includes parties, charges or claims, scheduled events, and disposition data.

For records not available online or when official copies are needed, the appropriate office depends on the type of case:

Are Court Records Public in Beaver County?

Pennsylvania operates under the Case Records Public Access Policy of the Unified Judicial System, which establishes a strong presumption of public access to court case records. Under 42 Pa. C.S. § 4301(b), designated custodians—including the Clerk of Courts, the Prothonotary, and the Register of Wills—are required to maintain court records and make them available in both paper and electronic format.

Records generally open to the public include:

  • Docket sheets and case indices
  • Complaints, answers, motions, and other pleadings
  • Court orders, opinions, judgments, and decrees
  • Sentencing records in criminal cases
  • Civil judgments and liens
  • Probate filings, wills, and estate inventories
  • Marriage license records

Records that are confidential or restricted include:

  • Juvenile court records
  • Unexecuted search warrant affidavits
  • Documents whose disclosure would compromise personal privacy or security
  • Records sealed by specific court order

Information subject to mandatory redaction before public release:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • State identification (SID) numbers
  • Names and dates of birth of minors (except when a minor is charged as a defendant)
  • Victim addresses and contact information

The public access policy authorizes both in-person inspection and remote electronic access. Docket sheets are available at no charge through the UJS Web Portal, though obtaining physical or certified copies from a county office incurs fees set by each custodian’s schedule. Requests for sealed or otherwise restricted records must be supported by a court order.

Beaver County Probate Court Records

Probate and orphans’ court matters in Beaver County are administered by the Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court. This office probates wills, issues letters of administration for intestate estates, collects inheritance taxes due to the Commonwealth, records adoptions, receives and indexes all Orphans’ Court petitions, and maintains guardianship records for incapacitated individuals.

Phone: (724) 770-4550
Fax: (724) 728-9810

Appointments are required for new probates. To limit walk-in traffic, the office requests that callers or emailers contact staff in advance for procedural guidance. The fee schedule effective February 1, 2025 governs all probate-related charges.

To request probate records, a requester must provide:

  • The decedent’s full legal name at the time of death
  • The date of death (approximate date if exact date is unknown)

Records that are generally accessible include filed wills, letters testamentary and letters of administration, estate inventories, accountings, and Orphans’ Court orders. Guardianship records for incapacitated persons are also filed here, though certain sensitive medical or personal evaluations within those files may be restricted.

Probate in Pennsylvania begins when a personal representative (executor, if named in a will, or administrator, if no will exists) presents the decedent’s will to the Register of Wills for probate and applies for letters of authority. If a person dies intestate, the Register appoints an administrator and the estate is distributed under Pennsylvania’s intestacy statutes. The Register of Wills collects the Commonwealth’s inheritance tax and oversees the filing of estate inventories and accountings.

Historical wills and Orphans’ Court records are also preserved in this office. Researchers interested in older records may wish to consult the FamilySearch catalog for Beaver County probate records, which includes microfilmed records from 1803 to 1917 and indexes through 1965.

Property records relevant to estate administration—including deeds, mortgages, and liens—are maintained separately by the Beaver County Recorder of Deeds. The Recorder’s Office provides an online search portal covering records from 1800 to the present. The county property records site offers additional parcel and assessment data. The Assessment/Tax Claim Office can be reached at (724) 770-4480 for questions about real estate assessments and delinquent tax records.
