Huntingdon County, located in central Pennsylvania, operates its court system through the Court of Common Pleas along with several Magisterial District Courts. Whether you are seeking case history, verifying a judgment, researching an estate, or reviewing civil filings, the county maintains an organized system for accessing these materials both in person and through online tools. The Huntingdon County Courthouse serves as the primary hub for all court-related record requests and filings.

Residents and researchers looking to access publicly available court case information in Pennsylvania have several avenues available to them, including clerk offices, public access terminals at the courthouse, and state-level online systems. PennsylvaniaCourts.us provides a starting point for locating court case data across all 67 Pennsylvania counties, including Huntingdon, and can direct users toward the appropriate county-level or statewide search tools for public case records.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Huntingdon County?

The most direct way to search for a court case in Huntingdon County is through the UJS Web Portal, the official online case search system maintained by the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania. The portal is free to use and allows searches by participant name, case number, organization name, offense tracking number, police incident or complaint number, or state ID number. It provides access to docket sheets from Common Pleas Courts, Magisterial District Courts, and appellate courts statewide, including all cases filed in Huntingdon County.

For records not available through the portal, or when certified copies are required, requesters must contact the Office of Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts directly. The office handles all civil and criminal court filings, maintains case dockets, and prepares certified copies upon request. Requests may be submitted in person during regular business hours or by mail.

Are Court Records Public in Huntingdon County?

Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law (RTKL) establishes the baseline framework for public access to government records. Under the RTKL, records created or maintained by government agencies in connection with their official business are presumed to be public unless a specific exemption applies. However, access to judicial case records — meaning documents actually filed with a court — is governed not by the RTKL but by the Case Records Public Access Policy of the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania, which sets the rules for what case information may be disclosed and in what manner.

Under this policy, most civil, criminal, and family court docket information is available to the public. However, specific categories of documents and data are restricted. Commonly sealed or confidential records include:

  • Adoption records — sealed by court order under Act 101 and not open to the public without proper verification
  • Juvenile dependency and delinquency records — generally restricted to protect minor participants
  • Mental health and drug treatment records — sealed from public view under applicable law
  • Protection from Abuse (PFA) petitions — certain identifying information may be restricted
  • Military discharge records (DD-214) — recorded in the Recorder of Deeds office but accessible only to the veteran with proper identification or through the Veterans’ Affairs Officer at (814) 643-1360
  • Birth and death records from 1906 to present — these are state vital records held by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, not the court, and require a formal request with eligibility verification

The court’s public access forms include a Confidential Information Form, Confidential Document Form, Certificate of Compliance, and a Written Request for Access to Case Records. These forms govern how sensitive data is handled within filings submitted to the Huntingdon County courthouse.

The UJS Web Portal note on docket sheets clarifies that online docket information should not be treated as an official criminal history background check. For an official background check, requesters must use the Pennsylvania State Police PATCH system, which charges a fee of $22.00 per search.

Huntingdon County Criminal Court Records

Criminal court records in Huntingdon County are maintained by the Clerk of Courts division within the Office of Prothonotary/Clerk of Courts at the Huntingdon County Courthouse. This division dockets and indexes all criminal cases originating from the county’s four Magisterial District offices, maintains juvenile delinquency and dependency case records, accepts bail in criminal matters, and issues bench warrants at the request of the District Attorney or the Probation Department.

Criminal docket sheets — which include charges, case status, sentencing information, and hearing dates — are publicly searchable through the UJS Portal case search. Users can locate a specific individual’s criminal docket by entering a name, case number, or state ID number. Docket sheets are available to view and print at no cost.

For those needing certified criminal records or documentation of a court disposition, requests must be made directly to:

Defendants seeking to expunge a criminal record may use the Petition for Expungement forms available on the court’s website. Both Pa.R.Crim.P. 490 and Pa.R.Crim.P. 790 petitions and corresponding orders are available for download. An Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) application is also available for eligible first-time offenders.

It is important to note that online docket sheets do not constitute an official criminal history background check. For employment, licensing, or volunteer purposes, a formal background check must be requested through the Pennsylvania State Police PATCH portal.
